Now that I've finished the final paper for my Master's degree, I have time to sew and craft again. (I'm also back out in the garden, so you may hear about that also.) I've been lurking in the sewing community, thanks to Lynn, and figure it's time to start a sewing blog so I can participate in the community. I'm going to try to keep family-focused posts on my other blog (neglected during the years of grad school), but a bit of it will probably seep over also.
I'll start with a few older projects to illustrate the bane of my existence ("Mom, would you make ___ for me?") and lessons learned (Do NOT hand your husband a costume book and tell him to "pick something" for you to make for him to wear to a Renaissance wedding your friends are having- unless you REALLY want a challenge!).
As you've probably already figured out, I do like to make parenthetical comments.
I have been sewing costumes since high school, off & on, but have never had a formal sewing lesson- not even home ec. (It wasn't offered in my high school.) I did a bit of sewing for my kids (4 of them) when they were small, but am much better at creating a design than I am at following a pattern. Fortunately they work out, at least most of the time. I ALWAYS make a muslin before cutting expensive fabric, and have a stack of old sheets in my sewing room for that purpose.
